The University of Illinois Asian American Alumni Network (AAAN) is about pride, friendship, connections and service. Since officially affiliating with the broader University of Illinois Alumni Association in 2005 and launching the Network in 2006, AAAN has already grown to over 300 members worldwide and has opened satellite chapters in multiple cities in the U.S., including San Diego, SF Bay Area, Seattle, and Washington D.C. Among other activities in 2006, AAAN hosted and co-sponsored business networking events and partnered with the Urbana-Champaign campus to involve alumni in its student mentorship program.

The mission of AAAN is to strive for the betterment of the University of Illinois as an agency for education, public service, and social progress and to provide a space where interested Asian American alumni can contribute to and become involved with the University of Illinois, other alumni, and the broader Asian American community.

JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Project Engineer - Retail Products
REPORTS TO: Director - Product Management
LOCATION: Springfield
DEPARTMENT: Products Group

Job Summary: This position is responsible for the development, introduction and on-going support of retail products. The role is accountable for developing innovative products that meet/exceed customer requirements, are developed and launched on-time and within budgetary guidelines. Leadership in both product management and project management roles is required. Applicants must be available to travel domestically and internationally.


Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Functions)
  • Research and development of innovative new solutions for retail products including, but not limited to brewers, grinders, and single serve solutions
  • Responsible to ensure product designs are robust for manufacturing (DFM) as well as for customer use.
  • Ensure products meet all applicable agency requirements (UL,NSF,CE) for appliance.
  • Keep current on competitive activities and products.
  • Leadership role in helping the Retail team achieve its Quality, Value Improvement, New Product Development, Competitive Benchmarking and Continuous Improvement project goals
  • Launch products that meet/exceed requirements, are within budget, and reach the market on schedule
  • Responsible to help develop strong relationships with new international partners and maintain relationships with existing partners, both in supply and distribution networks
  • Active project management using BUNN's NPD project management process and software. Effective project status reporting.
  • Collaborative work and project management with international partners
  • Close interaction with industrial design firms and engineering consultant firms
Qualifications - Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in an Engineering Project leadership role
  • BS Engineering - Mechanical or Electrical
  • Able to manage multiple projects at one time
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in operating in a cross-functional, multi-national team environment
  • Detail oriented, quality-first mindset
  • Creative problem solver
  • Analytical - Examine data and make good decisions
  • Practical - Able to develop an understanding of the operational environment and user
  • Understanding of plastic and metal design for tooling processes
  • Experienced in system design, electro-mechanical component selection and specification.
  • Able to define and lead testing efforts for design development, verification, and product quality validation, as well as competitive assessment.
Specialized Knowledge/Skills
  • Hands-on management of Asian/global sourced product projects
  • Willingness to travel in support of project work both domestically and overseas.
  • Experience in using Solid Works or other 3D modeling software
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Prefer experience developing appliances or other products that operates on electricity
