Final Call for Joining the UIC Dragon Boat Team!
Race Team.
The 2008 Dragon Boat Race for Literacy in Chinatown is on Saturday, July
26. Proceeds of the event will go to the Chicago Public School System,
Office of Culture and Diversity in the Chicago Board of Education to help
promote culture and diversity in our fine schools. This year, UIC is
sponsoring a team. This means, joining the team will be absolutely FREE!
Teams compete in a fast paced race along the south branch of the Chicago
River at Ping Tom Memorial Park on beautifully decorated dragon boats. We
are looking for approximately 20-25 people willing to participate. No
experience is necessary! For more information, please email mgaba2@uic.edu.
We have held 2 informational meetings during the past month and now have
approximately half of the team already filled. This means, the remaining
spots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Those who are
willing to commit to the team can reply back to me from this email. The
team roster is limited to 25 people, so the first 14 or so people to reply
back will have a spot on the team. Please be sure you can commit to the
team before replying!
The time commitment for team members is decided upon by the team itself.
There will probably be a couple of training sessions and meetings during the
summer. The team members must be available the whole day on July 26, the
day of the race.
If you are prepared to commit to the team, please reply back to this email.
The first 14 or so people to reply to me will secure a spot on the team.
Thank you all for your interest and support of the UIC Dragon Boat Team.
