AAAN in 2006
2006 will be an exciting year for the University of Illinois Asian American Alumni Network (AAAN). Over the past four months, the AAAN Board has worked hard to clarify our mission, define objectives, and establish internal resourcing. We are excited to move ahead with you to ensure the AAAN becomes a vibrant and successful organization for its members and our community.
On Sunday, February 12, 2006 the AAAN Board met to discuss our goals for the coming year and how the AAAN can best meet those goals. In particular we addressed leadership, membership, recruiting, and organizing AAAN’s kick-off event. We are pleased to share the following updates with you:
Please join the Board in welcoming Paula Kim as the new President of the AAAN. Paula Kim is a 2001 graduate of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and is currently an attorney in Chicago, Illinois. During her time at UIUC, it was her privilege to be involved with a number of Asian American student organizations, and she will bring that same levelof commitment and excitement here. We would like to thank Betty Jang, the outgoing President, for her hard work and dedication.
You will see a major membership initiative in April, and a kick-off event in June. Additionally, as many of you have expressed interest in becoming involved with the AAAN, you will have the opportunity to do so as a Board or committee member. Please watch for more information soon.
We would like to thank the University of Illinois Alumni Association (UIAA) for its continuous support of the AAAN. Most importantly, we would like to thank all the interested persons who have patiently waited for the AAAN to get on its feet. Your support and involvement is invaluable, and with these the AAAN will surely become a rich resource for its members, and a voice for the University of Illinois Asian American alumni and student communities.
